“Bunitim demais da conta”: crenças e atitudes linguísticas sobre o “falar mineiro” da região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte

    Understanding linguistic variation as a social practice involves understanding not only how people produce and use language in the different social practices of society, it also implies including how speakers perceive and interpret what is being said, or even how they generally assess language in use. Faced with the need to understand how Mineiro speakers from the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte evaluate the Mineiro way of speaking, in this research, an instrument of linguistic beliefs and attitudes is elaborated. With this, the objective of this study is to verify if the inquired miners tend to react positively or negatively about their way of speaking, in addition to what are the social meanings mobilized by the survey respondents to characterize their dialectal variety. Respondents exhibited social cohesion in the way they rated their own way of speaking. A sense of pride and solidarity with the group to which the speaker is present is perceptible based on the social meanings listed as characterizing the way of speaking in the region. Also noteworthy is the redefinition of the meaning of “caipira” which, potentially associated with the evaluative dimension, in this study, is a social meaning that marks the persona from Minas Gerais.

    O entendimento da variação linguística como prática social envolve compreender não só como as pessoas produzem e fazem uso da língua nas práticas sociais diversas da sociedade, implica incluir, também, como os falantes percebem e interpretam o que está sendo dito ou, ainda, como eles avaliam, de modo geral, a língua em uso. Diante da necessidade de compreender como os falantes mineiros da região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte avaliam o modo mineiro de falar, nesta pesquisa, um instrumento de crenças e atitudes linguísticas é elaborado. Com isso, o objetivo deste estudo é verificar se os mineiros inquiridos tendem a reagir de forma positiva ou negativa sobre o seu modo de falar, além de quais são os significados sociais mobilizados pelos respondentes da pesquisa para caracterização de sua variedade dialetal. Os respondentes apresentaram uma coesão social na forma como eles avaliaram o seu próprio modo de falar. Um sentido de orgulho e solidariedade com o grupo a que o falante está presente é perceptível com base nos significados sociais elencados como caracterizadores do modo de falar da região. Destaca-se, também, a ressignificação da acepção de “caipira” que potencialmente associada à dimensão avaliativa, neste estudo, é um significado social assinalador da persona mineira.
