    El presente trabajo viene a sumarse a la abundante historiografía existente sobre la maternidad. En nuestra aportación reflexionamos sobre el modelo de madre propuesto por el movimiento higienista durante la intercenturia, analizando la importancia que aquellos otorgaron a las madres para llevar a cabo su proyecto de regeneración social Se ha utilizado como fuente prioritaria de análisis los artículos publicados en la revista La madre y el niño. Revista ilustrada de higiene y educación, una de las más destacadas publicaciones promovidas por los higienistas decimonónicos, comparando el pensamiento de su línea editorial con el ofrecido en otras revistas, como La ilustración de la mujer, o en diversas publicaciones de las mujeres más relevantes del momento.

    This work adds to the abundant existing historiography on motherhood. In our contribution we reflect on the mother model proposed by the hygienist movement during the intercenturia, analyzing the importance that they gave to mothers to carry out their social regeneration project.

    The articles published in the magazine La madre y el niño have been used as a priority source of analysis. Illustrated magazine of hygiene and education, one of the most outstanding publications promoted by nineteenth-century hygienists, comparing the thinking of its editorial line with that offered in other magazines, such as The Illustration of Women, or in various publications of the most relevant women of the moment.
