    El autor ofrece una lectura de varios acontecimientos de las sesiones municipales de Madrid desde 1561 hasta 1602-3 y concluye que, frente a lo que pueda parecer, en Madrid no existe una violenta persecución anticonversa. Los miembros del Concejo se quejan de la pérdida de presencia hidalga. Muchos de los que se quejan son recién llegados y del tercer estado. En toda la documentación manejada no hay ninguna alusión a “conversos” y sí un anhelo de re-hidalguizar el Ayuntamiento.

    After analyzing the Madrid municipal acts from 1561 to 1602, the author suggests that there did not exist in Madrid any violent anticonverso persecution. Some of the members of the Town Council expressed their complaints about of the loss of importance of the hidalgo class among their group. Many of these complainers were villagers from the third state who had just recently obtained their membership in the Town Council. In all the documentation analyzed, there is no mention of the converso problem but rather a desire for the rearistocratization of the Municipality.
