In 1894 Arturo Soria y Mata, an entrepreneur, founded a stock company (the Compañía Madrileña de Urbanización) in Madrid to which he entrusted the task of building a new urban prototype with low population density: the linear city. In order to realize his idea, Arturo Soria knew that he had to publicize his project to attract potential investors. The Linealists' gaze is on Italy: texts by distinguished Italian scholars are translated in the company's house organ as well as a report of a trip to Milan.
