The transition between educational stages is a highly complex situation for any student, especially so for students with disabilities, as is the case with students with Down syndrome, where this change can be a turning point in their academic and professional development. This chapter will provide a review of the measures that can assist in the transition process. The limitations that exist in the educational field are:: legal neglect, lack of knowledge and social prejudices, discrimination, access barriers, schools without sufficient resources or training to meet their needs, lack of curriculum support, etc. Subsequently, a review will be conducted on the possibilities available to these students upon completion of compulsory education. It is important for their educators, teachers, family members, and the students themselves to be aware of all the alternatives so that they can make informed decisions tailored to each individual, taking into account their needs, interests, and level of autonomy. Some of the most established options include: continuing with academic education (with the necessary support) or entering the workforce (mainstream employment, sheltered employment in occupational centers, specialized employment centers, or supported employment). In conclusion, it is necessary to eliminate barriers through teacher training and sensitization, curriculum adaptations, coordination among professionals, support and assistance, allowing for meaningful participation and true inclusion in the classroom, communication and collaboration with families, and so on.
