La Catalunya de demà [MIQUEL COLL I ALENTORN] En els darrers anys de la vida del que el 1985 (any en què es va pronunciar el discurs que recollim aquí) era president del Parlament de Catalunya, Miguel Coll i Alentorn reflexiona sobre la Catalunya que somia. Tal i com ens explica, el seu és un somni raonable, dins d'un país plural en llibertat, justícia i germanor. Imagina la seva Catalunya de demà com un país pròsper, però no ric, i que ho serà en funciò de l'esperit de treball, d'iniciativa i d'enginy dels seus habitants. Que procurará estar al corrent deis avanços de tota mena, però que mirará també de no perdre el contacte amb les seves tradicions històriques properes i remotes. Que estarà obert a les influències externes d'Europa i del món, però que no deixarà que això el despersonalitzi. Certament, els seus vaticinis no s'han allunyat gaire de la Catalunya actual. Catalunya, per a Miguel Coll i Alentorn, restaurarà la seva personalitat per la catalanització dels seus habitants sense violències ni enfrontaments, perfeccionará i farà més efectives per a la seva gent les institucions culturais i educatives i, per mitjà d'aquests instruments i de la puixança econòmica, s'afavorirà la recatalanitzaciò i la conservaciò de la catalanitat. Aquesta és una part del seu somni que, segons l'autor, ha de servir per estimular un treball conjunt que no serà per demà ni per demà passat, pero sí que serà l'ideal en el qual ens convida a treballar tot plegats.

The Catalonia of tomorrow [MIQUEL COLL I ALENTORN] In the later years of the life of the president of the Parliament of Catalonia in 1985 (when he gave the speech we reproduce here), Miguel Coll i Alentorn reflects on the Catalonia he dreams of. As he explains, his is a reasonable dream, of a plural country in freedom, justice and brotherhood. He imagines his Catalonia of tomorrow as a prosperous, but not rich, country, and that it will be so depending on the spirit of work, initiative and creativeness of its inhabitants. A country that will strive to stay abreast of all kinds of advances, but without forgetting its close and remote historical traditions. One that will be open to the external influences of Europe and the world, but which will not become depersonalised. And the truth is that his visions are quite close to what Catalonia is now. Catalonia, for Miguel Coll i Alentorn, will restore its personality through the Catalanisation of its inhabitants, without violence or confrontation, it will perfect the cultural and educational institutions and make them more effective for its people, and, by means of these instruments and economic solvency, boost the recatalanisation and the preservation of Catalanity. This is part of his dream which, according to the author, must serve to stimulate work by everyone, work which will not be for tomorrow or the day after, but rather the ideal in which he invites us to join together and work upon.
