    El artículo recoge el pensamiento de Ratzinger sobre Europa y muestra cómo hay una continuidad en su línea siendo ya Papa. Con numerosas citas de diferentes discursos, conversaciones y otros escritos, se va describiendo cuál es el sustrato de la identidad europea, cuáles son sus auténticas raíces. Además, llama la atención sobre el hecho de que no se puede disponer de los frutos que ha dado Europa a lo largo de estos siglos (libertad, derechos humanos, etc.) si ni los propios europeos cuidan dichas raíces o incluso se pretende olvidarlas o incluso odiarlas.

    The article gathers Ratzinger's thought on Europe and shows how there is a continuity in his line being already Pope. With numerous appointments of different speeches, conversations and other writings, there is described which is the substratum of the European identity, which are its authentic roots. Besides, it calls the attention on the fact that it is not possible to have the fruits that Europe has given throughout these centuries (freedom, human rights, etc) if nor the Europeans themselves do not look after them or they try to forget them or even to hate them.
