Wader community composition was studied at a sandy seashore in the province of Málaga (SE Spain) in August 1983-84. Low richness (4-7 species) and high dominance (monthly average of 54.9%) were characteristic. The monthly average of relative abundance was 24.1 birds/km. Sanderling Calidris alba (13.3 birds/km and 55% of total waders) was the dominant species. In addition, Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula (3.2 birds/km), Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus (3.1), Turnstone Arenaria interpres (2.5), Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos (1.8) and Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus (0.1) were the other typical species of this habitat and period of the year
