Conquistada la villa de Alcántara por la Orden Militar homónima, su puente constituyó una buena fuente de recursos proveniente del pago de un portazgo que se estableció por el uso de su paso. Para su gestión se crearía una llamada Alcaidia del Puente que llegaría a estar en vigor hasta en 1836, cuyo análisis nos permite conocer la vida del puente y entender su supervivencia hasta nuestros días.

Falfowing the conquest of the town of Alcántara by the Military Arder of the same neme, its bridge became a considerable source of revenue as a re-sub- of the tolls ~sed on passage over the sarne. An organization known as the "Alcaidá del Puente" was created to administer these tolls and rernained in force until 1836. An examinatiion of the "Alcaidia" makes it possible to appreciate the lile of the bridge and understand its survival up to the present doy.
