Resumen de Políticas de igualdad en la universidad: una reflexión sobre los planes de igualdad en América Latína y España

  El presente artículo describe la implantación de leyes y políticas de género de la Unión Europea y España en diferentes universidades españolas, especialmente mediante la creación de planes de igualdad. Analizamos su utilidad, los obstáculos en la ejecución y los resultados de su instauración para después realizar una comparativa con el caso latinoamericano estudiado mediante el proyecto EQUALITY de cooperación Europa-América Latina. Basándose en la necesidad de avanzar hacia la igualdad de género en la educación superior, 18 universidades latinoamericanas están elaborando planes de igualdad para conseguir la equidad en su estructura institucional, en la carrera académica, en el empleo y las posiciones de liderazgo.

  This paper addresses the main initiatives for the gender equality in Higher Education Institutions not also in Europe but in Latin America, too, by means of gender plans. Based on the need to move towards gender equality in Latin America, 18 universities in the region have been working on the development and implementation of gender plans. Through the training provided by the cooperation project EQUALITY between the European Union and Latin America, the universities have learnt from experiences of different European universities and the goals achieved by the European Union in gender issues. We present a comparative study on gender plans firstly developed in Spain and later in Latin America through EQUALITY project. The usefulness of the gender plans, the obstacles in their execution and the results of their approval and implementation are analyzed in this paper. We provide as well strategies to address the difficulties encountered during the development process, as they have been created and tested by EQUALITY project in order to reach equity in the institutional structures, in the academic career and leadership positions. Finally, we point out the impact of gender plans in the universities of EQUALITY Network.
