Fukushima: el accidente severo

    El escenario desencadenado por el terremoto y posterior tsunami que desoló las costa noreste de Japón el 11 de marzo de 2011, constituye el accidente severo más complejo sufrido jamás por un reactor comercial de agua ligera. El presente artículo describe la evolución genérica de fenómenos que ocurrieron en las unidades 1-3 de la central nuclear de Fukushima-1. Asimismo, mediante los análisis realizados por el Ciemat, se ofrece una interpretación tentativa de algunos hechos cruciales, como el transporte de H2 hasta el edificio del reactor y su deflagración y la atenuación del término fuente en las piscinas de relajación de presión.

    Para concluir, y tras enunciar algunos aspectos en discusión puestos de manifiesto por Fukushima, los autores invitan al lector a mirar hacia Fukushima y hacia la investigación en accidente severo desde una nueva perspectiva

    The scenario caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit the North-East coast of Japan on 11 March 2011, is the most complex severe accident ever happened in a commercial Light Water Reactor. This paper describes the generic severe accident evolution in the units 1-3 of Fukushima-1. In addition, through the simulations carried out by CIEMAT, a tentative interpretation of specific key facts is given. Among them: the leak of H2 to the reactor building, its later explosion or the Source Term attenuation in the suppression pool. To conclude, after introducing some severe accident related open points that Fukushima highlighted, the authors encourage the reader to look at Fukushima and at severe accident research from new perspectives.
