  • Resumen
    • I would like to analyze the sonnets of two Calderon’s plays, Antes que todo es mi dama and El josé de las mujeres, to prove if the dramatist uses them as he did in El mayor monstruo del mundo or A secreto agravio, secreta venganza, which I have studied previously. The function of the sonnets in these two Calderonian plays is not the common monologue of a character alone on stage; rather, Calderón uses this type of composition in other contexts and situations and emphasizes the introduction of every sonnet placing them within other stanzas and anticipating their appearance throughout the dialogue. Moreover, similar to El mayor monstruo del mundo and A secreto agravio, secreta venganza, in these two new plays Calderón could be using these sonnets to emphasize them in multiple ways.
