    El objetivo de este trabajo es el analizar el contexto político, econó-mico y social que rodeó a la celebra-ción del Mundial de Fútbol de Espa-ña en 1982, centrándose de forma específica en la seguridad frente a la amenaza de grupos terroristas como ETA o el GRAPO, y desde sectores de la extremaderecha como el Bata-llón Vasco Español. Desde la segun-da mitad de los años setenta se vivió en España un aumento exponencial en el número de atentados terroristas, llegando a alcanzar 337 víctimas du-rante el periodo de gobierno de la Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD). Ante el reto de la organiza-ción del evento más importante al que se iba a enfrentar este país, la seguridad se convirtió en uno de los elementos que mayores preocupa-ciones generaron entre los organiza-dores. Esta investigación se ha centrado en el estudio del plan de seguridad que se implementó durante el Mun-dial, describiendo al mismo tiempo el clima de tensión que vivía la so-ciedad española en relación con la amenaza del terrorismo. Por otro la-do, el recuerdo del atentado del co-mando terrorista palestino de Sep-tiembre Negro en los Juegos Olímpi-cos de Múnich en 1972, estará muy presente en la mente de las autorida-des políticas y deportivas españolas, temiendo que un ataque similar pu-diera arruinar la imagen del país. Es-ta investigación ha utilizado las prin-cipales fuentes bibliográficas que existen sobre esta temática así como los recursos hemerográficos y la do-cumentación oficial generada por el Real Comité Organizador del Mun-dial (RCOM).

    The aim of this paper is to analize the political, economic and social context during the celebration of the World Cup of Spain in 1982, focus-ing specifically on security against terrorist groups such as ETA or GRAPO, and from groups of ex-treme right such as the Basque-Spanish Battalion. Since the second half of the 1970s, there has been an exponential increase in the number of terrorist attacks in Spain, reaching 337 victims under Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD) govermment. Faced with the challenge of organiz-ing the most important event that this country was going to face, security became one of the elements that raised the greatest concern among the organizers. This research has focused on the study of the security plan that was implemented during the World Cup, describing at the same time the climate of tension that Spanish society lived in relation to the threat of ter-rorism. On the other hand, the memory of September Black terrorist attack during the Munich 1972 Olympics, will be very present in the mind of the Spanish political and sporting authorities, fearing that a similar attack could ruin the image of the country. This study has used the main bibliographical sources as well as the hemerographic resources and the official documentation generated by the Royal Organizing Committee of the Spanish World Cup (RCOM).
