Resumen de Sé catedral do porto: história e evolução

  The city of Porto has developed over the centuries and those changes can be seen in its buildings, monuments, streets and alleyways which have withstood and adapted to the test of time. It is this evolution that has made our city a creative place, and this creativity can be witnessed in the actions of Porto�s citizens and all others that have come to the city, as well as the stories and myths surrounding them. In this article, we will establish a connection between the analyses of a catholic church, its symbols of faith, architecture and its art, and tourism � a fast-growing industry in the city of Porto. We also want to demonstrate how, nowadays, religious buildings can attract both worshipers and nonworshipers, thus appealing to a very wide audience, both national and international. Therefore, we will specifically look at the Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) and its influence on the city, from the Middle Ages to the present day; we will analyse the building�s evolutionary timeline, in terms of its architecture and the ideals of those who surrounded it; we will outline its impact on Porto�s citizens throughout history and try to understand how it is perceived by visitors to the city. Finally, we would like to remind you that the Cathedral, being one of Porto�s oldest religious monuments, is of paramount importance in understanding the city that Porto�s inhabitants have inherited.

  A cidade do Porto foi-se desenvolvendo ao longo dos séculos e tal está patente em todos os edifícios, monumentos, ruas e vielas que foram sobrevivendo e se adaptando ao tempo. É esta evolução que torna a cidade Invicta numa cidade criativa tendo a criatividade se expressado nas acções dos cidadãos portuenses e todos os outros que foram chamados à cidade, e em todas as histórias e mitos que surgiram à volta destas acções e destes cidadãos.

  Neste artigo pretendemos aliar o estudo de uma igreja católica, em conjunto com os seus elementos de fé, a sua arquitectura, a sua escultura e a sua pintura, com o turismo. Sector este em franco desenvolvimento na cidade. Pretendemos ainda mostrar que as instituições eclesiásticas, neste momento, atraem crentes e não crentes, tornando-se assim em algo maior que atrai um vasto público, tanto nacional como internacional. Assim, e em concreto, propomo-nos a estudar a Sé Catedral do Porto e toda a sua influência na cidade do Porto, desde a época medieval até ao presente1 . Perceber a linha evolutiva desta instituição ao nível arquitectónico e ao nível da mentalidade. Perceber a importância que teve outrora e mantém actualmente para os portuenses, e ainda tentar perceber como os estrangeiros a entendem. Lembramos que a Sé, enquanto primeira instituição da cidade, é dos melhores objectos de estudos para tentar perceber que cidade os cidadãos do Porto herdaram.
