  • This talk introduces the topic of multimodal interaction and discusses some of the most important work in the area, with a focus on haptics, audio and smell based interaction. Each modality is presented in terms of perception, technology and applications. In particular, the talk covers the area of non-speech audio, with discussion of Earcons, Auditory Icons, sonification and other forms of sound. For haptics, forcefeedback, vibrotactile, thermal feedback are described along with pressure and force input. For smell, the longer version of the talk goes into more details about the different modalities with more examples of each.
