    La inmensa mayoría de los cordobeses tiene una idea más o menos clara de cómo era la Córdoba Romana. Igualmente , es conocida la extensión y grandeza de la Córdoba Omeya. Sin embargo, es difícil que contesten a alguna pregunta sobre la ciudad que existió durante los cuatrocientos años que separan el final del Imperio Romano en la Bética y el surgimiento de al-Andalus. En este capítulo trataremos de dar a conocer, con los datos existentes, cómo era esa ciudad y el importante papel que jugó durante la Antigüedad Tardía, periodo histórico caracterizado por el final del Imperio Romano, la cristianización de la Bética y el surgimiento del Reino Visigodo de Toledo.

    The vast majority of the people from Cordoba have a more or less clear idea of what Roman Cordoba was like. Likewise, the extension and greatness of the Umayyad Cordoba is widely known. However, it is difficult to answer sorne questions about the city that existed during the four hundred years separating the end of the Roman Empire in the Baetica province and the emergence of al-Andalus. In this chapter we try to analyse what the city was like and the important role it played during Late Antiquity, an historical periodcharacterized by the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Christianization of Baetica and the emergence of the Visigothic Kingdom of Toledo.
