Resumen de Migración árabe a Barranquilla: el caso de Elías Muvdi

  El presente trabajo intenta reconstruir la trayectoria comercial del inmigrante palestino Elías Muvdi Chajuan, quien arribó a Barranquilla a inicios del siglo XX. Trabajamos los protocolos notariales del Archivo Histórico del Atlántico para hacer seguimiento a sus registros comerciales. Ello nos permitió acercarnos a los negocios que emprendió y entender la amplia red comercial que tejió. Al igual que muchos inmigrantes árabes inició su actividad económica con la compra y venta de mercancías, sin embargo, otros negocios como la finca raíz y el préstamo de dinero terminaron por consolidarse como sus activos más valiosos. La familia y sus vínculos con Palestina fueron piezas importantes de su trayectoria comercial.

  This paper tries to reconstruct the commercial trajectory of the Palestinian immigrant Elias Muvdi Chajuan, arrived at Barranquilla at the beginning of XX century. We inquire in the notarial protocols of the Archivo Histórico del Atlántico to follow up his commercial records. This allows us to get closer to the businesses in which he got involved and understand the wide commercial network he wove. Like many Arab immigrants, he started his economic activity with the purchase and sale of merchandise, but other businesses such as real estate and money loans ended up consolidating as his most valuable assets. The family and his links with Palestine were important pieces of his commercial trajectory.
