  El artículo busca reconstruir las líneas generales del desarrollo de las relaciones entre Chile y el Instituto Indigenista Interamericano (III) entre 1940 y 1993. Se consideran tres aspectos: (1) la participación chilena en los congresos indigenistas interamericanos; (2) el indigenismo indígena de Venancio Coñuepán y la Corporación Araucana, la principal organización mapuche en las décadas de 1940 a 1960 y(3) la incorporación del Estado chileno al III y a su Consejo Directivo.

  This article aims to reconstruct the main historical lines of the relations between Chile and the Instituto Indigenista Interamericano (III) from 1940 to 1993. Three aspects are considered: (1) Chilean participation in the Indian Interamerican Congresses, (2) the indigenous Indigenism of Venancio Coñuepán and the Corporación Araucana, the most influential Mapuche organization in the decades from 1940 to 1960 and (3) the integration of the Chilean State into the III and its Directive Council.
