The Comando Truppe Volontarie (CTV) arrived in Spain from Italy to support the rebel army during the Civil War. Among its ranks was a cartography unit in charge of developing valuable graphic materials which would serve as support for military strategies. The importance of the work this cartography unit carried out has been mentioned in other research projects from a historical point of view, as well as from that of cartographic language. This chapter studies the panoramic sketches of a specific landscape; Sierra de Oriche. These sketches allowed for the analysis of the battlefront in the surroundings of the Teruel municipality of Rudilla. It focuses on both the graphic quality of the documents as well as the testimony that the drawings, understood as a means of communication, contribute to the chronicle of the events. The techniques and processes used for the development of these sketches are analyzed on the basis of written testimonies from publications belonging to the moment, the observation of the drawings themselves and their digital manipulation. Furthermore, links between the drawings and the written history of the events that took place are explored. In this way, and by being enabled with a deeper knowledge of these perspectives, the usefulness of these graphics for the understanding of the territory, beyond being just simple lines, is made evident.
