    • With this paper the authors aim at giving an overview on how the current legislation (European and German) addresses the issue of water pollution and the negative effects on climate change due to over-fertilisation with reactive nitrogen (Nr). In this respect, the topic of fertilisation in the current agricultural system is briefly introduced, followed by an overview of the environmental and human health problems caused by over-fertilisation. Then a description, in two separate sections, of fertilisers regulation in relation to the water environment and climate protection is made. Additionally, a description a brief update on the latest developments in legislation is made.
