  • Resumen
    • The Corn grain (CG) mostly is used in concentrate diets and the silage of the whole plant (SWP) as a roughage source in ruminant nutrition. The third possibility would consist of using the silage of the immature high-moisture corn grain (HMCG: A.K.A pastone)as a way to obtain high energy product and to reduce plant vegetative cycle. The aim of the presented assay is to evaluate in vitro the nutritive value of HMCG and HMCG+cob and compare them against CG and SWP in growing steers. In relation to CG, the HMCG (pastone) showed lower concentration of CP, EE and fiber and higher NFE. Moreover HMCG showed higher level of gas and VFA production as well as in vitro OM digestibility. Harvesting and ensiling the immature corn allows reducing corn crop cycle and provide higher energy content than CG.
