La MESA REDONDA como herramienta docente. Aplicación a la asignatura de Ferrocarriles en el Grado de Ingeniería Civil

    En el ámbito académico la mesa redonda no es un género oral muy común porque requiere una organización y preparación previa. Sin embargo, es una herramienta de utilidad cuando se necesita ampliar y facilitar la comprensión de un tema determinado. Su aplicación a la docencia surge a partir de la idea de analizar noticias de actualidad relacionadas con la asignatura que se imparte. El objetivo es estimular el interés del alumno por la materia. A través de una técnica cercana y participativa, los alumnos analizan sus ideas acerca de un tema, aplican el conocimiento, reflexionan sobre el mismo, trabajan con ratios, son críticos con la información y aprenden herramientas que les ayudarán más allá del entorno docente, como puede ser en la presentación de un proyecto o en una comida de empresa. En la ponencia se explica el funcionamiento de una mesa redonda docente, sus objetivos, la metodología a seguir para su puesta en funcionamiento y se describen brevemente los resultados obtenidos de su aplicación a la asignatura de Ferrocarriles (3º Grado Ingeniería Civil UPCT)

    In academic circles roundtable discussion is not a very common oral expositionbecause it requires organization and previous works. However, it is a useful toolwhen you need to increase your knowledge of a given topic. Its application toteaching appears as a result of analyzing current news related to the subject taught.The aim is to motivate student attention in the subject. Students discuss their ideasabout a topic through a close and participative technique. Students make use of theirknowledge, they think about the given topic and compare their works with others,they learn to work with ratios and to be critical with the found information. Moreover,roundtables dicussions show them new abilities to explain a project or to maintain aconversation on a business lunch. The paper is structured as follows: how aroundtable discussion works and its objectives, the methodology to make use of it inclassroom, and the results of its application to the subject of Railways (3rd DegreeCivil Engineering in UPCT)
