    • One of the most followed didactic trends in teaching social sciences is the use of historical heritagein its various meanings. The student’s contact with this historical heritage enhances certain elements that arebeneficial to the learning process. This study analyzes the possibilities of developing a didactic intervention toimprove the learning of history based on the urban historical heritage of various cities in Extremadura (Spain).The sample on which the intervention has been applied is made up of XXX students. The intervention hasconsisted of the development of gamified learning strategies based on challenges related to historical heritage,the period to which it belongs and its influence today. To obtain research results, an ad hoc questionnaire hasbeen designed, in which information is collected about the prior knowledge of the heritage used in the intervention, the development of learning throughout it, and the most relevant learning methodologies. useful forresearch purposes. The results indicate that 36% of the students have improved their knowledge of history, animprovement directly linked to the use of heritage in 67% of the cases. The most valued methodologies havebeen challenge-based learning and gamification
