  • Resumen
    • This paper outlines the Mentoring Plan for first-year students at the Public University of Navarre (Spanish acronym UPNA) launched during the 2015-2016 academic year. The Plan was developed by adapting mentoring schemes from other Spanish and Englishspeaking universities to the UPNA’s smaller size and structure. Mentors —students in the final year of their undergraduate degree— are selected based on a set of pre-determined criteria. The Plan includes a general training session prior to the start of the academic year in which mentors attend workshops to support their future work with their mentees. Between September and March the mentors advise and guide a maximum of seven firstyear mentees studying the same degree as them. The programme is coordinated by the Vice-Rectorate for Students in close collaboration with the various schools and faculties to ensure that meetings between mentors and mentees are run properly. This paper will outline the theory underpinning the UPNA’s Mentoring Plan and the main reference models used, as well as describing its main characteristics and assessing the Plan’s performance. The UPNA’s Mentoring Plan can be used as a guide for other universities with a similar size and structure.
