Agriculture is undergoing a deep-going process of change. Within this context, the main objective of this paper is to analyze the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of different future scenarios on the irrigated agriculture. We simulated the behaviour of agricultural producers in the different future scenarios using positive mathematical programming models. The results enable us to quantify the influence of individual driving forces, and provide evidence of the utility of this type of prospective analysis in support of public decision-making in agriculture.
