  • Resumen
    • Professor Phil Stenton proposes a definition of pervasive media as “digital media experiences woven into the fabricof everyday life, created as a consequence of their situational context at the moment of delivery” (Stenton, 2011).This paper considers examples of pervasive media projects that use film to promote, augment, deliver or documenthistorical and social narrative, artistic and ludic events.Dr. Charlotte Croft’s ‘Curzon Cinema Project’ combines historical narrative with the reminiscence of cinema-goers,exploring the heritage of Clevedon’s Curzon Cinema with a location-aware app and a model cinema controlled bythe user’s mobile phone. The Hybrid City’s workshop ‘Codes of Disobedience and Disfunctionality’, led by Professor Martin Rieser, invitedpeople on the streets of Athens to share their thoughts on the economic crisis. Video interviews were mapped into alocative walk with QR codes positioned amidst fly-posters and graffiti; walkers use their own mobile devices to scancodes and trigger video along the route. Concurrently a 3-screen video installation and graffiti-wall presented thework within the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens. Film footage of protests and personal commentarywere publicly viewable on the streets and in the gallery within hours of being recorded.Further examples outline artistic and ludic use of film with pervasive media, considering the placement of film inrelation to the live experience. The paper will raise questions about obstacles to use of film with pervasive media, contrasting this with other areas of rapid development such as online i-docs, sonic pervasive media.
