Las armas procedentes de un contexto del siglo VI de Segobriga

    Este trabajo da a conocer dos piezas de armamento encontradas en la excavación de sondeos arqueológicos en un recinto fortificado, construido sobre el solar del antiguo circo romano de Segobriga. Se trata de un scramasax y un posible angon, que pertenecen a la panoplia habitual de armas del mundo militar visigodo. Por el contexto arqueológico -técnica constructiva y materiales- y la morfología de las armas, este recinto fue edificado en el siglo VI y estuvo muy poco tiempo en uso, a juzgar por la inexistencia de reformas. Las fuentes documentales no ofrecen datos sobre la situación política en Segobriga durante la mayor parte de esta centuria que nos ayuden a comprender el contexto histórico de su fundación. Sin embargo, su edificación evidencia un significativo esfuerzo constructivo, reflejo de la presencia de poderes con una importante capacidad económica.

    This work presents two weapons found in the excavation of archaeological surveys in a fortified enclosure built upon the remains of the ancient Roman circus of Segobriga. These are a scramasax and a possible angon, both belonging to the usual panoply of weapons in the Visigothic military scene. We know, from the archaeological context - construction techniques and materials - and the morphology of the weapons, that this enclosure was built in the 6th century and, judging by the absence of renovations, that it was only in use for a very short time. The documentary sources do not offer any information on the political situation in Segobriga during most of this century that would help us to understand the historical context of its foundation. However, its construction is evidence of a significant building effort, reflecting the presence of social groups with significant economic resources
