  Sembla que el més antic processoner procedent d’una església de l’antiga Narbonesa és el del monestir de Sant Salvador de Gel·lona, ara anomenat de Sant Guilhem del Desert. És el manuscrit Montpeller, Bib. Mun., ms. 20, fol. 1-65v, que es pot datar al tercer quart del segle XIII. El seu text és molt important perquè mostra que alguns processoners es formaren partint d’un primitiu recull de peces de cant per a les principals festes litúrgiques d’una església, més tard completat amb textos per a celebracions de tot l’any litúrgic. Entre les primitives festes hi ha la de l’Exaltació de la Santa Creu del dia 14 de setembre, en la qual es mostrava la Veracreu que Carlemany havia regalat al duc Guillem d’Aquitània, fundador del monestir.

  It seems that the most ancient monastic processionary coming from any church in the ancient Narbonese is the one from the monastery of Saint Salvator of Gellone, now called Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. It’s the manuscript Montpellier, Bib. Mun., ms. 20, f. 1-65v, that can be dated to the third quarter of 13th century. Its text is very important because it shows that some processionaries were built up from a primitive compilation of chant pieces for the main liturgical celebrations of a church, later completed with texts for other celebrations of the year. Among the primitive celebrations is that of the Exaltation of the Cross (14th september), in which the True Cross given by Charlemagne to the duke William of Aquitaine, the founder of the monastery, was shown to the people.
