Resumen de Los “you-are-here maps” como modelos educativos en ciudades pequeñas: el caso de Aveiro

Los mapas “usted está aquí” bien diseñados se suelen encontrar en grandes ciudades, como Londreso Moscú, y rara vez se encuentran en pequeñas ciudades. Para la elaboración de estos mapas existebastante consenso internacional, de hecho, es habitual ver en distintas partes del mundo los mismosdiseños, elaborados por las mismas empresas. Aveiro es una ciudad pequeña y turística, dealrededor de 60.000 habitantes, que cuenta, en la actualidad, con mapas “usted está aquí”. En estainvestigación se analizó una muestra de mapas de la ciudad turística de Aveiro (Portugal), para versi sus mapas “usted está aquí”, cumplen con los criterios de elaboración de mapas turísticos, queaseguran la mejor comprensión. Se ha encontrado que los mapas “usted está aquí” de Aveirocumplen con los criterios aceptados internacionalmente para la elaboración de este tipo de mapas.Se analizan los resultados y se propone este modelo, mejorado, a otras pequeñas ciudades, no sólode Portugal, sino a otras ciudades del mundo, con poblaciones similares.

Well designed “you are here” maps are usually found in large cities such as London or Moscow,but are not so common in small cities. For the elaboration of these maps there is enoughinternational agreement, with the same designs made by the same companies being increasinglycirculated worldwide. Aveiro is a small tourist city of approximately 60.000 inhabitants that hasinstalled “you are here” maps. In this study, a sample of the “you are here” maps of the touristiccity of Aveiro (Portugal) was analysed to assess if the maps complied with the criteria and standardsfor the design of tourist maps to ensure they are easily understood by users. The “you are here”maps of Aveiro were found in this study to comply with the internationally accepted criteria for thedesign of “you are here” maps. The results are analysed and a novel and improved model isproposed, which is applicable not only to other small Portuguese cities, but to other similar sizedcities worldwide.
