Resumen de Influencia de la viveza de imagen y control de imagen en la orientación espacial en mapas

  La habilidad para tener imágenes vivas y controlarlas influye en muchas tareas cognitivas, comoel rendimiento en tareas espaciales, o el rendimiento académico. En esta investigación deseábamosaveriguar la influencia de la habilidad de formar imágenes vivas y la habilidad de control de lasimágenes mentales en la orientación espacial en mapas reales de ciudades. Para ello, seleccionamosun grupo de estudiantes universitarios de la facultad de psicología de la Universidad de Santiagode Compostela, a los que se les han presentado un test que mide la capacidad para formar imágenesvivas, el Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnaire (VVIQ), y un test que mide la habilidad paracontrolar las imágenes mentales, el Gordon Test of Visual Imagery Control, y dos test que midenla orientación espacial: El Spatial Orientation Skills Test (SOST), y el Map Rotation Ability Test(MRAT). Se encontró que la viveza de imagen no influyó significativamente en ninguno de los testque miden orientación espacial, sin embargo, el control de imagen influyó significativamente enuno de los test de orientación espacial, el Spatial Orientation Skills Test (SOST).

  The ability to control mental imagery influences numerous cognitive tasks such as performance inspatial tasks, or academic performance. This study assessed the influence of the ability to formvivid imagery and the ability to control mental imagery on the spatial orientation of maps of realcities. Thus, a sample of psychology undergraduates from the University of Santiago deCompostela were administered one test measuring the ability to form vivid imagery, the Vividnessof Visual Imagery Questionnaire (VVIQ); one test measuring the ability to control mental imagery,the Gordon Test of Visual Imagery Control; and two tests measuring spatial orientation: the SpatialOrientation Skills Test (SOST), and the Map Rotation Ability Test (MRAT). Image vividness wasfound to have no significant influence on any of the test measuring spatial orientation; however,image control significantly influenced one of the spatial orientation tests i.e., the Spatial OrientationSkills Test (SOST).
