    La formación de Portugal en la Edad Media es una cuestión que cobra importancia teórica desde el mismo momento de constitución del reino, debido a su contexto político y la necesidad de justificar su existencia como respuesta a la ideología desarrollada en Castilla. Este trabajo hace un repaso y contrapone las distintas historiografías portuguesa, gallega y española que han estudiado este proceso. En segundo lugar, analiza la formación del condado y su evolución hasta constituirse en reino, así como los diferentes sectores sociales involucrados, su formación, desarrollo y las actuaciones políticas desde la fundación del condado hasta la consecución de la independencia.

    The formation of Portugal in the Middle Ages is an issue that became theoretically important from the very moment of the constitution of the kingdom, due to its political context and the need to justify its existence as a response to the ideology developed in Castile. This paper reviews and contrasts the different Portuguese, Galician and Spanish historiographies that have studied this process. Secondly, it analyses the formation of the county and its evolution until it became a kingdom, as well as the different social sectors involved, its formation, development and political actions from the foundation of the county until the achievement of independence.
