  En la redefinición del icono masculino moderno que sucede desde finales del siglo xix se evidencia el progresivo abandono de los ideales caballerescos y la asunción de valores burgueses y los vínculos con la nación y la guerra. Por ello, la imagen fuerte y viril de los reyes-soldado se convertía en la masculinidad hegemónica. Para el caso de la figura de Alfonso XIII, en su definición como modelo masculino español fueron importantes aspectos como las aficiones del monarca, su imagen familiar, su aportación humanitaria durante la Gran Guerra y el elemento colonial ligado a la ocupación de Marruecos. Sin duda, el colonialismo imperial acercaba España a Europa, algo importante por estar en la frontera del orientalismo o de lo africano.

  In the redefinition of the modern male icon since the end of the nineteenth century, the progressive abandonment of chivalric ideals and the assumption of bourgeois values and ties with the nation and war is evident. For this reason, the strong and virile image of the sol-dier-king became a hegemonic expression of masculinity. In the case of Alfonso XIII, various aspects were important in defining him as a model of Spanish masculinity, such as the monarch’s hobbies, his family image, his humanitarian contribution during the Great War, and the colonial occupation of Morocco.
