  • Resumen
    • The creation of a design theory requires the appropriate empirical generalisations and an inferential structure for reasoning. Such a theory should also be able to accornodate the processes of creativity and invention and should indicate at what stage and how conventional engineerihg science, and other pertinent lmowledge, is made use of.

To achieve this aim an analysis of systems and products is introduced leading to general concepts. Aspects of linguistic modeling are used as a symbolism and for bringing design thinking closer to deducti ve thinking. This is done by dividing a complete situation into peripheral objects together with a user/receiver, and into a system and product. Properties of the peripheral objects are currently observable, the property in question of the user/receiver is envisaged through search or creativity. Relevant properties of a system and a product can be deduced from the meaning of the appropriate terms wi thout recourse to any kind of hardware . This leads to a functional structure yielding specifications to be used for selecting, or inventing, hardware.
