Resumen

• AEthelthryth of Ely is portrayed in Bede's work with the virtues of a good Christian woman, in that any activity outside these ideals was reframed or suppressed. A thorough examination allows us to reconstruct this more worldly profile and the role of women like her in consolidating and stabilising the monarchy on the island.
