New Release for Ellen Jacobson SMITTEN WITH RAVIOLI review @Ellen_Jacobson

A really fun book released today. It's by my friend and co-IWSG'r (Insecure Writers Support Group), Ellen Jacobson. I've read all of her Mollie McGhie stories, starting with Murder at the Marina. They are laugh out loud funny.

When Ellen announced she was branching out into a new romantic comedy series, I knew I had to read them. The first is Smitten With Ravioli (Smitten with Travel series). I was lucky enough to get an advanced readers' copy so I can tell you about it.

Blurb (from Amazon)

I’m not sure what I’m more scared of—cats that drool or falling for that annoying history professor in my Italian cooking course.

Sure, Preston Whitaker has amazing blue eyes, but he’s an arrogant know-it-all, just like my ex. I can’t stand the man. And now I’m stuck with him for the next four weeks in Italy.
If you gave me a choice between snuggling with a drooling cat or with Preston, I’d choose the cat in a heartbeat.
Or would I?
Did I mention how cute Preston is?
Maybe I should have a holiday romance with him. That would be okay, right? It could be a fun diversion. Then, once I leave Italy, I’ll never have to see that pretentious jerk again.
Just one teeny-tiny problem—I think I might be falling for him big time. Will I be able to say goodbye to him when the cooking course is over?
Smitten with Ravioli is a standalone romantic comedy with a happily ever after ending that you’ll swoon over. If you like steamy-clean romance with plenty of goofy humor, Italian food, and the occasional drooling cat, you’ll love Ginny & Preston's story!

Diane's Review: 5 Stars

Smitten With Ravioli is as funny as I expected and more so. Ginny hasn't been dumped by a former boyfriend. Worse. The jerk copied her thesis paper and turned it in as his own. Consequently, she's accused of plagiarizing him. After that, she has to get away. How about Italy? Why not. She enrolls in a culinary school.

The laughs start when she discovers she enrolled in the wrong class. Then, the cute guy she met on the train (and who seems to follow her) shows up and becomes her cooking partner. Smitten With Ravioli is filled with wacky characters and crazy situations. This book will have you laughing out loud.

Smitten With Ravioli is available at  all retailers. The universal link is   https://books2read.com/ravioli

Ethan Stone.
The reason his name seemed familiar was that his producers had been hounding her to agree to appear on a segment on his health and weight loss show. They claimed to want the sisters to try to mend their relationship so Andie could have closure.
Karis knew better than to put herself within arm’s reach of her sister.
The doorbell rang.
Karis puffed out a delicious sigh of relief and binned the carton. At eight p.m., it could only mean one thing.
“Thank the Lord—dinner.”
“What did you order?” Her mum’s chastising tone filtered into her ear. “Nothing unhealthy, I hope.”
“It’s usually a surprise. A few times a week my friend from the deli drops by with food. She knows I hardly have time to shop and takes pity on me.”
Karis practically bounded to the front door. She was star-ving. She yanked open the door, ready to devour whatever mouth-watering yumminess was on the other side and nearly dropped the phone.
Her mouth fell open. She blinked, unable to believe her eyes. For sure, something yummy stood before her, but not hers to devour—not that she wouldn’t have equally welcomed dinner in this form. She let her gaze roam down then back up again.
Ethan Stone—he of the title Sexiest Eye Candy To Lust After—towered outside her door. He was tall, far taller than she imagined from his magazine photo. At five-foot-eight—eleven in heels—she looked most men in the eye, but to do the same with Ethan Stone she had to tip her chin six inches.
She must have conjured some kind of freaky fantasy after snagging her own copy of the gossip magazine. Because there was no way Ethan Stone would be standing outside her door at eight-o-five at night in a dinner suit holding a single white rose as he unleashed that incredible smile. Karis glanced behind her to where she’d left the magazine, then back at him.
“Karis Van de Burke?” His deep intonation did something strange to her solar plexus. Made it quiver.
“Darling? Are you still there?” Her mum’s voice was an unwelcome intrusion.
“I’ll call you back, Mum.” She cut the call without taking her eyes off the man in front of her. He was striking, with a straight-edged aquiline nose, chiselled features so even and appealing she couldn’t stop staring. His hair was a lighter brown than his photo depicted, but his eyes ... those eyes were just as remarkable. Dark-blue rings surrounded the vivid blue irises, creating a contrast, which added a mysterious air that surely made him stand out in a crowd.
“Yes, I’m Karis Van de Burke.” She cleared her throat. What was up with her voice?
“I’m Ethan Stone.”
“I know who you are.” She tucked the phone behind her back so he wouldn’t notice her slight nervous tremor. “Why are you here?”
He offered her the rose. “I came to proposition you.”
She blinked. The evening sun was still bright and framed him in golden light, making him appear almost dreamlike.
He smiled. Someone should outlaw such a lethal smile. “I’m hoping you’ll let me take you out to dinner, ask you to reconsider my producers’ offer.”
Karis released her grip on the door and took the rose. “I’m sorry to inform you, you’re wasting your time, Mr Stone. As I’ve told your producer—Rob, was it—?”
“Ray.”
“Ray ... I’m not interested in becoming a circus act.”
“He relayed your thoughts on the matter. However, I was hoping you’d give me one hour of your time so I can—”
“Try to convince me to let you make a fool of me on national television?” She handed back the rose. “Thanks, but no thank you.”
His fascinating blue eyes flicked to her outstretched hand. He left her hanging.
Choosing that moment, her stomach growled a ravenous reminder.
“You’re hungry, and I’m offering to take you to dinner.” He sniffed the air. “Since I don’t detect the aroma of food, I think I can safely presume you haven’t eaten yet.”
“I was just on my way to pick up something.”
His smile told her he knew she was fibbing. “In that case, will you allow me to join you?”
Arm tiring from its outstretched position, Karis drew the rose back and placed it, along with the phone, onto the side table next to the door.
“So you can talk me into appearing on your show?”
“Because I’m hungry too, and I’d like an opportunity to share my ideas for your sister’s follow-up episode, in the hopes you might consider rethinking your position.”
She couldn’t hold back the wicked smile tugging the corners of her lips, so she bit down on her bottom lip. Any position involving Ethan Stone did deserve some consideration.

Meet Author Monique DeVere

I have a super treat for you today. Friend and fellow author Monique DeVere is a great supporter of authors through the group Authors Helping Authors. Please welcome her.

Hi, Monique. Please tell us about yourself.

Hi, Diane! Thanks for letting me hang with you. I am an author of what I like to think is light and funny romances. They tend to lean toward the spicy side of the romance genre but are clean for language. I also write Christian Supernatural Suspense scripts.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

  1. Originally, I wanted to be a doctor but I was one of those kids who spent a lot of time gazing out the window lost in daydreams and made-up stories. That should have been a great clue that my destiny was to be an author. For as far back as I can remember I made up stories for my family and friends. I even wrote them down and sold them for 10 cents each. I wrote my first full-length book at age 15 and by 18 I decided that being an author was far more exciting than being a doctor. Besides, as an author I could be anything I wanted to be! Far more appealing.

How long does it take you to write a book?

  1. I can write a 50K book in a month. That is not to say I get the chance to do so all that often. I have a lot of people around me who infringe on my time. But once I knuckle down to write I can easily put out 3K+ words per day five days per week—taking weekends off. I write in the morning and edit in the afternoon. I wish I was the type of author who writes the first draft straight through then do the edits after, but I just can’t leave a chapter unedited and move on.

I can't either, Monique. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

  1. Rise at 3am and write until 6am. Exercise, shower, dress, do the school run. Return and take the dog for a 3.5 mile walk which takes me just over an hour. Write some more or edit until lunchtime, then take a break for lunch. Do household chores, school pick up, dinner and family. I will sometimes creep back to my home office to work if I haven’t fallen asleep on the settee on hubby’s lap while attempting to watch TV with him J.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

  1. Book ideas usually pop into my head in title form while I’m in the shower or doing chores.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

  1. When I’m not writing I love to watch religious channels and learn about life after death, Heaven, hell, and everything Christian supernatural.

Where do you start when writing? Research, plotting, outline, or...?

  1. My book ideas usually start with a title, followed closely by the two central characters, the cute meet and the main story line. I then have to dig down deep for their internal conflicts. Then I create my list of relevant scenes on A4 copy paper which I usually misplace somewhere in the mess of paper on my desk. I tend to do research as I go.

Your desk sounds like mine. What do you hope readers take with them after reading your work?

  1. Love! I hope that my readers experience a sense of love and joy when reading my books and, once they close them, I hope they walk away convinced that there is true love out there for everyone—even if they’ve had the worst luck in love to date.

What a lovely thought. Tell us about your latest release.

Her sexy weekend fling.

Ex-lawyer turned pregnancy model Danielle Hampton has one simple rule; never date an attorney, even if he’s so deliciously hot she’s nicknamed him His Hotness Esquire. When her father asks her to strap on her silicone bump and pretend to be Casey Lowe’s pregnant fiancée in order to pull her family’s law firm out of trouble, her first answer is a resounding no! But she owes Casey for wrecking his pool.

Civil Rights Attorney Casey Lowe lives by a code of practice: never date his boss’s daughter, but he’ll do just about anything to make partner at the top law firm—even if it means violating his personal code. He hasn’t bargained on the fierce desire that burns hotter than the Mojave Desert and combusts every time he gets his boss’s daughter alone. She may drive him to distraction and melt in his arms, but will this party girl hang around long enough for him to convince her that all the best parties… are for two?

“James, get your butt out of that pool right now.” She spun in an effort to find Sierra who just so happened to be James’s girlfriend. The only woman with any ability to leash him. “Where’s Sierra?”
He grinned, beckoned. “Hi, babe. Come in. The water’s perfect.”
“Don’t ‘babe’ me. Get out now. All of you! Get out before the owner comes home and has us all arrested for trespassing.”
“Don’t worry about it, babe. Casey is never home. We have time to use the pool and clean up before he gets back.”
“How do you propose to dry out the furniture?”
“When did you turn into such a worrier? I thought you wanted to party?”
“Par-ty, par-ty, par-ty.” James’s buddies chanted, waving their fists above their heads like they were back in college at a keg party.
Their girlfriends giggled and cheered.
And they all ignored Dani.
None of them made a move to get out of the pool. Frustration unfurled in her chest before slithering downward to tie itself into a giant angry knot in her stomach.
Dani placed her fingers between her lips and executed the kind of piercing whistle her mother had always assured her ladies didn’t do.
“Hey!” Now she had their attention, she rushed forward. “I said get out of the pool noooooowah—!”
In the back of her mind, she registered the mistake of dashing across wet tiles on bare feet. But like most mistakes, a person only ever recognized them after they’d made them. Dani fought the slip ‘n’ slide for as long as she could before accepting the inevitable. She was going into the pool whether she wanted to or not.
With a loud splash, she hit the water. Sank to the bottom of the swimming pool, a vague thought drifting through her mind.
James was right. The water was perfect.
