Meta's own research found parental supervision doesn't really help curb teens' compulsive social media use
Meta's internal research study, Project MYST, found that parental supervision and controls have little impact on teens' compulsive social media use. The study, conducted in partnership with the University of Chicago, revealed that teens with adverse life experiences are more prone to overuse social media. This finding was highlighted during the ongoing social media addiction trial in Los Angeles, where the plaintiff, identified as Kaley, accuses Meta, YouTube, ByteDance, and Snap of creating harmful products. The study's results could influence future regulations and company policies regarding social media use among minors.
