🎤 I had the privilege of participating in the #docUNight screening of "Big Water" at United Nations City Copenhagen with Under-Secretary-General and UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva, where we discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and its wide-ranging impacts. As someone who has worked extensively in conflict zones like #Ukraine, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible challenges we face on the ground, especially when it comes to providing humanitarian aid amid daily instability and environmental devastation. 🚨One of the most significant challenges is volatility. Our teams work under constant threat, with aerial attacks, power cuts, and a deep psychological toll on communities and our staff. This requires flexible programming, rapid adaptation, and strong collaboration with local authorities, United Nations agencies, and #NGOs to ensure effective coordination and avoid duplication of efforts. ⚖️The tension between urgency and long-term thinking is another major challenge. While there’s immense pressure to act quickly, we strive to maintain a balance, ensuring that our work not only addresses immediate needs but also contributes to building back better. 🌍Environmental challenges, such as #explosive contamination, are another key issue. With over a quarter of Ukraine's territory affected, this threat blocks economic recovery and perpetuates displacement. Our projects are more than just practical interventions — they restore hope and a sense of normalcy to those affected by the war. Every day, we are committed to working with our partners to overcome these challenges and help Ukraine build a sustainable, resilient future. ✨ Thankful for the opportunity to share the experience Asbjørn Brink Simon Porter Dr Nicol Foulkes Savinetti Flemming Splidsboel Hansen Nataliya Popovych HUM:Global - University of Copenhagen

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing today that UNOPS is joining the Circular & Fair ICT (CFIT) Pact to enhance our approach and help accelerate #circularity, fairness, and #sustainability in the #ICT sector across the Globe. In 2023, UNOPS procured $1.6 billion worth of goods and services from over 5,700 suppliers worldwide, on behalf of 184 diverse partners. At UNOPS, we believe procurement can and must play a role in fostering sustainable development and achieving the SDGs and that is why we have been on a journey of continuous improvement in sustainable procurement for over a decade. By buying circular, extending product lifespans, and stimulating innovation we can reduce carbon emissions while fostering transparent and fair value chains that prioritize social justice, human rights, and labor rights. Later today, I will be speaking at the One Planet network - 10YFP #happeningnow in Rio Janeiro, Brazil. Joining our colleagues from the CFIT Pact ( Francini van Staden; Johan Rodenhuis; Mervyn Jones; Rolph Payet; and Filipe Camaño Garcia), I will close the Thematic Session: “Sustainable public procurement in the construction and ICT sectors,” and officially launch the UNOPS signature of the PACT. I welcome you to join us live here https://lnkd.in/dtubejCY at 14.00 Brasilia time (BRT), 19.00 CEST time READ 👉 https://bit.ly/3ztbQgN WATCH 👇

Working towards impacting and contributing to Sustainable Development through Sustainable Procurement & Sustainable Supply Chains
Today I had the privilege of speaking at the 2024 NPIO (Network of Procurement in International Organisations) Summit. During the session “Challenges in procuring with SME and Start-Up, together with Jens Kauffmann Kauffmann from European Space Agency - ESA and Hans Bracquené from SME4SPACE, I had the chance to explain how challenges such as lack of awareness, finance, and difficult requirements prevent MSMEs from doing business with international organizations, hindering the path to enhance the local economy and the work towards the Sustainable Development Goals. At UNOPS, through our unique approach, we are helping suppliers build their capacity and learn how to work with UN agencies. With programs such as the UNOPS Possibilities (UP) Forum and DRiVE, we are building capacities, reaching suppliers with inclusive policies and procedures, and decentralizing sustainable procurement. Thank you to the organizers of the NPIO Summit 2024 for allowing me to unfold the importance of sustainable procurement to supply chain & logistics experts from all over the world. 👉 https://lnkd.in/d9Mif7Cf

🌟 Exciting Day at the National Science and Technology Fair 2024 in Thailand!🌟 We had the privilege to represent UNOPS at our stall, which was part of the UN Pavilion at this year’s fair, held at Impact Muang Thong Thani. Our presence at the event underscores UNOPS' commitment to using science to support development, driving transformations in areas such as energy, digital innovation, and sustainable infrastructure. The event was organized under the theme: "Future Science Community for All - Fostering Participation in Building a Scientific Community to Enhance the Country’s Potential: Preparing Youth and the Public for Future Global Transformations." provided a platform for us to demonstrate these efforts. At UNOPS, we believe in empowering the next generation to become catalysts for global change. By embracing technological advancements, we showcased how technology and science shape the future and create opportunities for young people to develop their careers and contribute to sustainable development. It was inspiring to see so many young students engaging with science and technology, eager to contribute to a brighter future. Events like these are vital for empowering the next generation and preparing them for the challenges ahead. 🚀🌍 #UNOPS #ScienceAndTechnology #FutureLeaders #STEM #Innovation #GlobalImpact #NSTF2024 Simonetta Siligato Elizabeth Zalkind Maria Wernevi Luh Widyaningrum Ind Tungsatitchai Santaporn Na Nakorn Zekun Shi

I have just returned from my first mission as #UNOPS Regional Director Europe and Central Asia to Türkiye and Uzbekistan and remain super impressed at the power of #UNOPS and its people. Firstly two days in Ankara to meet key government and #UN partners, particularly Resident Coordinator Babatunde A. Ahonsi, #UNWomen Country Director Asya Varbanova, and Director General Süreyya Erkan of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, with whom we will shortly partner to together deliver an important project for women in earthquake affected areas. Moving on to #Uzbekistan, I had the honour to meet President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as we handed over equipment procured on behalf of the government of Uzbekistan at the opening of the oncology and radiology hospital in Tashkent and discussed future opportunities with Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. Also great broad and lively discussions with Shukhrat Vafaev from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan. I then had the opportunity to have a strong and fruitful conversation with Resident Coordinator Sabine Machl about strengthening partnerships to speed up support to Uzbekistan. Travelling with Freya von Groote and meeting with the strong and effective #UNOPS #Uzbekistan team was the icing on the cake. A committed and dedicated team working to deliver lifesaving support. The week has renewed my faith in #UNOPS’ ability to deliver, the strength of a UN system that works better together and a deep faith in the goodness of people to support each other.
