E3M1: Hell Keep is the first map of Inferno in Doom. It was designed by Sandy Petersen and uses the music track "Untitled". The par time is 1:30. The secret map E3M9: Warrens is structurally based on E3M1 but has extra rooms, items and enemies, and requires two skull keys.
in the Jaguar-based ports, this level is replaced entirely by an unrelated level of the same name.

Overview[edit]
This map is short and it is not very difficult, there are only 4 big rooms and 3 corridors, and 26 monsters and this makes it easy for speedruns.
Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
Press the closed eye in front of you to raise the platform you are standing on, revealing a big outdoor area with one or more imps. Go to the red wall at the north end, which has a door and two skull switches on it, then press the left-hand switch to open the door (the right-hand switch closes it again). On Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) or higher, the door has one or two cacodemons waiting behind it; since you only have a pistol at this point, you may wish to lure them outside and run past them to conserve bullets.
Past the door is a junction. Take the east path and open another door to enter a small courtyard with more imps, then open the door in the east wall to enter a narrow hallway with one or more demons. Follow the hallway to another door and go through it to enter a room with some red pillars, then open another door at the north end to reveal a chamber with multiple imps. Fight through them to reach the exit door, open it and step on the white teleporter in front of you to end the level.
Other points of interest[edit]
Past the first door, take the west path to reach a bridge over a harmful blood pool, which has a shotgun on it; the bridge will sink into the blood as you cross, so run across it and go through a false wall at the north end to enter a small room, which holds imps on HMP or higher. From here you can follow a passage east to get back to the junction. (If you are too slow or fall off the bridge, run to the north-west corner then walk west to find a path leading back to the east side.)
Secrets[edit]
- In the room before the exit room, open the hidden door on the left to reveal a rocket launcher, shotgun shells, and a stimpack. (sector 25)
Bugs[edit]
Two "hanging leg" decorations (things 80 and 82) in the starting area have no flags set for any of the difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level.
