Veil Of Rain 03:20
The band played on the hill The crowd was s7ll Taking the view from the hotel room Looking towards the water Playing the notes in the right order I can’t imagine that Repea7ng in my head Rehearsing for what’s ahead One step further on the street below Each one will follow Playing the notes in the right order I can’t imagine that Playing the notes in the right order I can’t imagine that In the window there’s a veil of rain And the new years keep on coming So open the door lose the one before There’s always just one more In the window there’s a veil of rain A life7me there in the window frame There’s a life7me held in the window frame In the window there’s a veil of rain The band played on the hill The crowd was s7ll Taking the view from the hotel room Sheets of rain on the water Playing the notes in the right order I can't image that

High on the rocks with the waves below So afraid of falling High on the rocks and then I let go It’s a long way down I never knew you could fall so slow Falling falling Sleep walking out from the middle of the night It’s a long way down Sit on the couch in a half built house Taking it all in Head in my hands working everything out Taking it all in Wai7ng for the walls the ceiling and the floor Enclosing it all in Let it all go and there’s nothing to show It’s a long way down My mother crashed the car on a light blue day In the summer sun I tried not to make the same mistake In the summer sum Streets leading back up over my shoulder In the summer sun Houses and the trees and the clouds unfolding In the summer sun High on the rocks with the waves below So afraid of falling High on the rocks and then I let go It’s a long way down I never knew you could fall so slow Falling falling Sleep walking out from the middle of the night It’s a long way down Sleep walking out from the middle of the night It’s a long way down Sleep walking out from the middle of the night It’s a long way down Sleep walking out, Sleep walking out it’s a long way down Let it all go and there’s nothing to show Falling falling

I wanna go away a go away a go away I wanna go away a go away I wanna travel back to the beginning of 7me Thirteen point seven billion years ago And I wanna travel to the end of 7me One thousand million trillion years from now That’s where I wanna go Just to have a look around Just to see what might be going on there And I wanna travel through the universe A million times faster than the speed of light And I wanna travel to the very small The place of quarks and strings and 7ny things That’s where I wanna go Just to have a look around Just to see what might be going on there Just to see what might be going on there Maybe I’ll see my mum and dad Maybe I’ll see my old black cat Maybe I’ll see the maker of the universe Maybe I’ll see the worst of the worst Crucified on his Lamborghini Chained to the gates of his marble mansion Maybe that’s just my wishful thinking That’s where I wanna go Just to have a look around Just to see what might be going on there Just to see what might be going on there

Nobody Knows 04:12
If you could see with the eye of a hurricane Could you then find your way home again Or would you be some eternally wandering ghost Nobody knows So is my home in the south part of Auckland Or up in the north of industrial England Or is it over in the rain green fields of Ireland How could you know Nobody knows According to all of the science books We were made in the stars All of the atoms inside of us Were made in those exploding stars So we come from almost everywhere We are made of almost nothing at all Atoms are small and empty So it would seem that my real home Is out in this local corner of the Milky Way Zeta Re7culi Cygnus and Alpha Centauri Nobody knows how could you know If you could see way into the future What do you think it would hold Would it be some amazing adventure Or would it just be growing old If you could see way into the future What do you think it would hold Would it be some dystopian nightmare Or would it just be growing old Nobody knows how could you know Nobody knows how could you know Nobody knows nobody knows

I remember the 7mes you and I we were alone The sun it was shining the bread and the wine It was so good it couldn’t go on The things that went on they go on and on I get a card something about losing a child I hear a story how you’re running wild Email said you’re moving back home You know what they say There’s no place like home Remember the waltz of the wind It seemed like it never could end I never seen a rope have string that long I never seen a kite that flies so strong I’d take you for coffee But Susie’s is no longer there You’d be surprised how it’s changed Since you were there It’s just like anything it goes up and down You’d like my wife And I guess we’ll meet you in town I thought that nothing would change The only thing that stays the same Is the waltz of the wind

Marianne 04:04
Do you remember Marianne and Mick A thousand flights they had together Everything was different then And nothing lasts forever Sixty six to sixty nine It ends in tears as years go by All of our love to you my dear Marianne Marianne Marianne you’re somewhere out there West of Dublin in a coLage of shells Wrote some books s7ll making records How it is and was is what you tell You have been through the mill But you’re s7ll beau7ful All of our love to you my dear Marianne Marianne Marianne Marianne Marianne on the wall on the losing end Tell ‘em all you’ve gone away S7ll through it all you came back again Back again Marianne Marianne Marianne Marianne All the roles you’ve played In this life you’ve made You have been through the mill But you’re s7ll beau7ful All of our love to you my dear Marianne Marianne Marianne All of our love to you my dear Marianne Marianne

Eileen 03:28
She’s preLy funny and she’s preLy smart You never heard her complain They got married had an animal farm He never men7oned her name She wrote a poem in the year before They got together in London The End of the Century 1984 He never men7oned her name Fall into a memory hole where nothing ever lasts I can see the future there colliding with the past She was the first to read and then to type the ideas That he’d think up or then she might Put the salient words in his ear Fall into a memory hole where nothing ever lasts I can see the future there colliding with the past He never men7oned her name Read me like an open book I’m caught between the lines I can see your shadow looming over mine Down and out in Paris London too Out on the road to Wigan Pier We’re all equal and that’s the truth But how equal that’s not clear Fall into a memory hole where nothing ever lasts I can see the future there colliding with the past They fought a war in Catalonia He wrote a book to explain It all ends up in disillusionment He never men7oned her name He never men7oned her name Eileen O’Shaughnessy

Under Water 03:37
Down in sheets It rained and it rained for weeks Down on the houses and the streets Up through a gap in the trees I saw a house float away on the water It’s all out of order BeLer take care When bad luck drowns out your prayers Say what you want and see where It gets you as the river keeps rising Watching as the world disappears It’s all under water It’s all out of order LiLle boats on a dark sea Someone coming out to rescue me Neighbour on the roojop cat’s in the tree You just dropped in to say hello I see your face as the water flows The swollen sky Clears leaves a tear in my eye In the mud and the debris You came out to help me While your own house was under the water It’s all out of order It’s all out of order It’s under the water LiLle boats on this dark sea Someone coming out to rescue me Neighbour on the roojop cat’s in the tree You just dropped in to say hello I see your face as the water flows Came down in sheets It rained and rained for weeks Down on the houses and the streets You never gave in While your own house was under the water It’s all out of order It’s all out of order It’s all under water It’s all out of order It’s all under water

Some7mes I dream of ancestral Ireland Land of my father and his fathers too Though I have never been there And probably won’t go From 7me to 7me I dream of her I dream of a sea-rock wreathed in myth Wind clean rain green stony hills With abstract craic and whisky song To sojen the sadness and the sorrow From centuries of misfortune Harried by angry England And sacked by the pagan Danes Under the thumb of a cruel and brutal priesthood Some7mes I dream of ancestral Ireland Land of my father and his fathers too I dream of the children warped by religion Tongue-lashed and scolded so browbeaten Their small brains bruised in puzzled skulls Alarmed and confused by these visions of hell With sex a slime-green substance Bubbling in the hairless anus of a demon Some7mes I dream of ancestral Ireland Land of my father and his fathers too I dream of the writers and poets and painters Ran7ng and rhyming and boozing in bars Ran7ng and rhyming and boozing in bars Too many poets and not many painters With the excep7on of Francis Bacon A big round face boot polish on his hair With such a high tolerance for liquor and violence Some7mes I dream of ancestral Ireland Land of my father and his fathers too Though I have never been there And probably won’t go From 7me to 7me I dream of her From 7me to 7me I dream of her

In twenty one hundred and thirty three Two people sikng by the sea The rocks on which they sat were warm Horizons held a distant storm At first they thought there’d come a 7me When they’d get rescued they’d be alright But then their sense of 7me dissolved Each day was weeks the nights were so cold Liquid skies are falling Hearts go rolling rolling Like two blood red medicine balls They could drown their emo7ons In the alien ocean Hearts go rolling out to sea As they shared their universe With no disease no wars no TV A love like rust began to show Through the isola7on and the rou7ne Liquid skies are falling Hearts go rolling rolling Like two blood red medicine balls They could drown their emo7ons In the alien ocean Hearts go rolling out to sea And then there came the accident The rocks were hard the body bent He looked into her glazing eyes Reflec7ons of the psychedelic sky The day was fading when there came The near forgoLen engine sound They took him home but his heart remained there Buried with her in the cold cold ground Liquid skies are falling Hearts go rolling rolling Like two blood red medicine balls They could drown their emo7ons In the alien ocean Hearts go rolling out to sea

about

Dog Trumpet's ninth album
The album begins with Peter’s lovely “Veil of Rain,” a song that builds and subsides like a gentle rainstorm… although that was probably unintentional. Either way, it is lovely. Reg offers some wonderfully eccentric moments that are catchier than anything else you’ll hear this year: “Live Forever,” “Nobody Knows,” “Ding Dong Butterfly,” and “Space and Time”. More highlights include Peter’s “Marianne” (their ode to Marianne Faithful), which Mental as Anything recorded with Martin Plaza on vocals. In Dog Trumpet’s hands, it is just different enough to sound fresh and new again. Peter’s “Eileen” and “Under Water” have hooks that instantly grab you and slap you up the backside. Each member offers up more gems, but I don’t want to completely give the game away. The group even adds a bonus track, the acoustic psychedelia of “Medicine Ball,” which is a re-recording of the song “Medicine Balls” from their STRANGE
BREW EP. The version here sounds more natural and relaxed and actually improves upon the original.
