Sentera adds FLIR thermal power to drone sensor lineup

Drone sensor tech specialist Sentera is expanding its payload capabilities by integrating Teledyne FLIR’s Boson thermal camera modules into its 6X Thermal series. The company is enhancing its 6X Thermal and 6X Thermal Pro sensors with high-precision radiometric thermal mapping, making them powerful tools for applications ranging from agriculture to industrial inspections.

The 6X Thermal series now combines FLIR’s radiometric Boson 640R or 320R imagers with Sentera’s existing high-performance sensor package, which includes four synchronized 3.2MP monochrome imagers and a 20MP RGB sensor. This integration ensures seamless thermal, multispectral, and visible imaging in a single compact unit.

Designed to work with leading drone platforms, the upgraded Sentera 6X Thermal series supports a variety of critical applications, including:

  • Agriculture: Water stress monitoring, crop health assessment, and evaporation analysis.
  • Forestry and fire management: Early wildfire detection and post-burn analysis.
  • Infrastructure and industrial inspections: Identifying heat loss, detecting structural weaknesses, and optimizing energy efficiency.

“Precision thermal mapping has long been a challenge due to alignment and stitching issues,” says Eric Taipale, chief technology officer at Sentera. “By combining FLIR’s trusted thermal technology with Sentera’s automated multispectral-assisted processing, we’re making it easier for users to capture, process, and analyze high-quality thermal data with confidence.”

Essentially, the Sentera 6X Thermal Series is now part of the Thermal by FLIR program, a Teledyne FLIR OEM initiative that helps manufacturers integrate advanced thermal imaging into their products.

Jared Faraudo, vice president of product management at Teledyne FLIR OEM, highlights the significance of Sentera’s integration: “Sentera’s innovative approach to combining thermal, multispectral, and visible imaging in a unified sensor package represents a market-changing innovation the Thermal by FLIR program was designed to support. By incorporating our compact, high-performance radiometric Boson modules, Sentera delivers unprecedented thermal mapping accuracy paired with pixel-level temperature measurement data.”

As part of the growing Thermal by FLIR ecosystem, Sentera’s enhanced 6X Thermal Series joins a lineup of cutting-edge thermal imaging solutions used across industries such as agriculture, public safety, and industrial maintenance.
