Another one of those masterpieces that made me look for my jaw quite far, as it dropped when first listening to this great album by Aussie act Earth Rot. The opener is still my favourite, such a pillar of blackened DM à la Dismember / Entombed, but then the album varies and mutates into groovy and neck-wrecking mid tempos and more precise guitar tones, and then accelerates again... Grim delight, really, outstanding opus!!
Favorite track: Terraform.

Building on the first album’s successful formula, Renascentia features a mix of old school death metal, black metal, and sludge along with some excellent groove elements. This is easily Earth Rot’s best entry yet.

Il ne faut pas se casser la tête quand on veut ratatiner celle des autres : pour un groupe de death metal, ça commence par le fait de trouver un nom bien crade — simple, basique. On pourrait se dire que Depravity suit ce commandement à la lettre sauf que Evil Upheaval, son premier album, révèle déjà un désir d'être dépravé par rapport à la scène. Plus que la recherche du décibel (qui est clairement là quand même), le quintette australien élabore des atmosphères infernales, transgresse, dénonce !

DEPRAVITY's sophomore and maybe Magnum Opus so far, though a new album is coming soon, maybe taking the top spot on the podium... Another brilliant mix, flawless prod, massive and punchy, delivered with surgical precision by the Aussie DM act. Again, supporting TOR, I just wanted to add the CD to my BC collection, but I can't see any DM fan turn their heads aways from this masterpiece!
