I’ve been horribly slow at getting the patio gardens set up this year. Part of it has been the weather; part of it has been a lack of time; part of it has been the gaping hole in my rock garden. I also tried to move most of the rocks I didn’t lose away from the hole, and they are all just piled around my post.

And with the weather and lack of time, I still have a huge pile of brush that I need cleared out of the herb garden. Add to that I’m not sure what to do with that space because the cherry tomato and a couple of veggies to fill the spot is not working for me. I just don’t know what to do there.

At least the hostas I planted a couple of years ago look happy.

But I finally decided I had to do something because the patio gardens bring me such joy, and I really do love the nice calming space. So over the weekend, I really started working on it. I had to get the Boston fern out of my house. I got it on clearance last year, and it looked too good to just leave outside when it was going to frost, so I brought it in. I didn’t actually expect it to live, but this thing is huge!

It might be a good center piece for in front of the well house.

I also brought out the bird of paradises and the citrus tree. But it is so stinking windy that I’ve had a hard time getting plants out and adjusted.

Anyhow, I started hauling all the fun stuff out of the basement! But again, trying to get things done in the wind and the rain and working and campaigning and stuff has made this a much slower process than usual.

Trying to harden off the plants and not get them fried by the sun is a challenge. I tried really hard, but my Boston fern still has a bit of sunburn.

I had to keep moving the bird of paradises and citrus tree. I even put the umbrella up on the table to provide more shade.

Anyhow, I think it’s good. For now. I will move things around once I get the rest of the plants outside and more annual flowers and the giant hole in the front filled in.
