about
Ese Día” (“That Day”) is a song born from a magical summer night on the Danish island of Møn. On June 23rd, 2022, Efterklang were in residence with collaborators Tatu Rönkkö, Rune Mølgaard, Hector Tosta, and Mabe Fratti, working on early ideas that would later shape their album Things We Have In Common.
That evening, they joined a midsummer gathering at one of Denmark’s oldest communes, where people sang and danced around a giant bonfire in celebration of Sankt Hans, the Nordic summer solstice. As the sunset blurred into sunrise, a new song began to take shape.
Later that night, back at the farmhouse, Rune began playing piano. Slowly, the others joined in. Casper and Mabe added lyrics inspired by the warmth of the people, the landscape, and that never-ending summer day.
The result is “Ese Día” – a musical memory of connection, celebration, and shared creativity.
“That day 3 years ago on the shortest night of the year, we went to celebrate in the gardens of Bent & Bente on Møn. It was one of those magic high-sky, never-ending summer days. Mabe was captivated by the crowd singing around the fire. We translated a few lines, and she made her own versions in Spanish. We jammed that night—and found this song that day. Ese día.” —Casper Clausen
