Sir Arthur Ernest Streeton, pintor paisajista australiano nacido en 1867 en Duneed, Victoria, miembro destacado de la Escuela de Heidelberg.
En junio de 1890 navegó a Sydney, Summer Hill y se quedó allí con su hermana.
Streeton fue influenciado por el impresionismo francés y las obras de J.M.W. Turner. Durante este tiempo comenzó su asociación con sus compañeros artistas Frederick McCubbin y Tom Roberts en Melbourne, también en Box Hill y Heidelberg. On April 8 is the birthday of
Sir Arthur Ernest Streeton, Australian landscape painter born in 1867 in Duneed, Victoria, a leading member of the Heidelberg School.
Streeton was influenced by French Impressionism and the works of J.M.W. Turner. During this time he began his association with fellow artists Frederick McCubbin and Tom Roberts – at Melbourne including at Box Hill and Heidelberg. In 1885 Streeton presented his first exhibition at the Victorian Academy of Art. He found employment as an apprentice lithographer under Charles Troedel.
He traveled through Australia and England. During the war he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps (British Army). He was made an Australian Official War Artist with the Australian Imperial Force, holding the rank of Honorary Lieutenant.

Johann Heinrich Philipp Franck, pintor impresionista, artista gráfico e ilustrador alemán nacido en 1860 en Frankfurt am Main.
Con el apoyo y la insistencia de su padre, comenzó estudiando arquitectura en la Escuela de Negocios de Frankfurt. Cuando su padre murió decidió perseguir sus verdaderos intereses artísticos. Johann Heinrich Philipp Franck, German Impressionist painter, graphic artist and illustrator born in 1860 in Frankfurt am Main.
With his father's support, and insistence, he began by studying architecture at the Frankfurt Business College. When his father died, he decided to pursue his true artistic interests. Accordingly, at the age of seventeen, he enrolled at the Städelschule, where he studied with Heinrich Hasselhorst and Eduard Jakob von Steinle. He focused on landscapes but, under Steinle's direction, also created illustrations for fairy tales.
In 1879, he moved to Kronberg im Taunus, where he joined the local artists' colony. While there, he befriended Anton Burger and took lessons with him until 1881. Franck, however, had his own strong opinions on the depiction of nature and went to the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he had been recommended to Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann. He was there until 1886.

He then began to travel, eventually settling in Würzburg. After finding little success there, he moved to Berlin in 1892 and became a teacher at the Royal Art School. In 1898, he was awarded the title of Professor. That same year, he joined with Lovis Corinth and Max Liebermann to help create the Berlin Secession. In 1902, his first wife died and, two years later, he married one of his students.
In 1906, Franck and his family moved to Halensee on the Wannsee, where he attempted to establish an artists' colony modeled on the one in Kronberg, but was unsuccessful. He returned to Berlin and became Director of the Royal Art School in 1915. In 1928, he participated in the International Exhibition at the Carnegie Institute. His book of reminiscences, Ein Leben für die Kunst (A Life for Art), was published shortly after his death.
He died in 1944.

Mandy McCartin, English artist born in 1958 in Sheffield, based in London, a "proud butch lesbian" and DJ "classic soul fanatic".
She studied at North East London Polytechnic (now the University of East London). She describes herself as from a working-class background and this is reflected in her images which are often of characters in inner city settings, painted in an intense way with different media including spray can graffiti.
Shows have included William Jackson Gallery (Cork Street), Whitechapel Open, Battersea Arts Centre, New Contemporaries (ICA), and James Coleman.
McCartin describes her work as paintings of "real people living on the edges of society, emotional moments in the struggle to survive."
Stuckists founder Charles Thomson has always endorsed her work and sees it as "an intense visual confection of urban life."
David Prudames has reviewed it as "snapshot images positively bustle with human activity, delving beneath the surface of city life's rougher side. Tube Girls is all attitude and Charity Shop's colourful confusion barks out aggression to the staccato rhythm of a busy street."
She has been regularly exhibited as a guest artist with the Stuckists in London. She was one of the four joint winners of their Real Turner Prize Show 2002 and was a featured artist in their major show The Stuckists Punk Victorian at the Walker Art Gallery during the 2004 Liverpool Biennial. She is not a member of the group (by choice), but "does like them".

In the early stage of his artistic career the climate of his works, regarded as symbolic ones, is filled with drama and sadness. Full of pain, deformed human figures along with mystic creatures are depicted against the background of surrealistic landscapes. This series of works was defined as Undreams by its author. During another period Kukowski definitely enlightened his palette; the artist became interested in nudes, nevertheless even here a viewer can perceive the brand of disintegration and passing time. These works were painted in a form of frescos being destroyed by time and revealing other pictures looking as if they had been painted behind them. In another stage of his artistic career, Kukowski moved back to his early works, but despite fairer coloring, his works were becoming more and more ironic and provocative. In 2001 some of Kukowski's works were removed from the exhibition in The Gallery SD due to resentment of the audience. Kukowski also created animations presenting the artistic process of his painting.

Cadell pasó gran parte de su vida adulta en Escocia y tuvo poco contacto directo con muchas de las nuevas ideas que se estaban desarrollando en el extranjero. On April 12 is the birthday of
Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell, Scottish Colourist painter born in 1883 in Edinburgh, renowned for his depictions of the elegant New Town interiors of his native Edinburgh, and for his work on Iona.
He was educated privately at the Edinburgh Academy. From the age of 16 he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian, where he was in contact with the French avant-garde of the day. While in France, his exposure to work by the early Fauvists, and in particular Matisse, proved to be his most lasting influence. After his return to Scotland, he was a regular exhibitor in Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as in London.
Cadell was a left-handed painter. While a student, the President of the Royal Scottish Academy tried to stop him painting with his left hand because 'No artist ever became great who did so.' Cadell swiftly replied 'Sir and did not the great Michelangelo paint with his left hand?' The President did not respond and left the room quickly. A fellow student asked Cadell how he had known that Michelangelo was left-handed. Cadell confessed 'I didn't know but nor did the president.'

Cadell spent much of his adult life in Scotland and had little direct contact with many of the new ideas that were being developed abroad. He therefore tended to use subjects and environments that were close at hand – landscapes, fashionable Edinburgh New Town house interiors, still life and figures in both oil and watercolour. He is particularly noted for his portraits of glamorous women whom he painted in a loose, impressionistic manner, depicting his subject with vibrant waves of colour. He enjoyed the landscape of Iona enormously, which he first visited in 1912 and features prominently in his work. During the 1920s he spent several summers with Samuel Peploe, another Scottish Colourist, on painting trips to Iona, and was also friends with the Scottish architect Reginald Fairlie.
During World War I He enlisted, serving in the 9th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and the 9th Royal Scots regiments.
He died in 1937.

Nissl studied from 1887 to 1889 in the painting class of Ludwig Schmid-Reutte. From 1888 he was a matriculated student with Johann Caspar Herterich, Ludwig von Löfftz and Paul Hoecker at the Munich Academy. From 1895 he was a member of the Munich and Vienna Secession, later also a member of the German Association of Artists.
He died in 1955.

Joseph Faßbender (Fassbender), pintor y dibujante alemán nacido en 1903 en Colonia.
Durante la década de 1920 fue instruido en pintura por Richard Seewald en la Kölner Werkschulen. Desde 1928 dirigió su propio estudio en Colonia. Como artista produjo principalmente pinturas abstractas.
Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial se vio obligado a trabajar como cartógrafo de la Wehrmacht.

Today, April 14, is the birthday of
Joseph Faßbender (Fassbender), German painter and draughtsman born in 1903 in Cologne.
During the 1920s Fassbender was trained in painting by Richard Seewald at the Kölner Werkschulen. Since 1928, he ran his own studio in Cologne. As an artist, he primarily produced abstract paintings.
During the Second World War he was obliged to work as a Wehrmacht cartographer.
Since 1946 he ran a studio at Bornheim near Bonn. In 1947 Fassbender founded at Schloss Alfter near Bornheim, together with Hann Trier, Hubert Berke and some other artists and men of letters, the "Donnerstagsgesellschaft" in order to revive, and promote, modern painting in the Rhineland.
In 1951 he organized an exhibition for his friend, Max Ernst. In 1955, 1959 and 1964, Fassbender participated at the documentas I-III in Kassel.
In 1958 the artist was appointed professor of painting and drawing at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he retired in 1968
Fassbender also designed many placards and book covers.
He died in 1974.
