Yi Chul Hee
이철희
Yi Chul Hee es un pintor y escultor coreano nacido en 1960 que vive y trabaja en Seúl. Ha presentado su obra en numerosas exposiciones colectivas e individuales desde 1983, y recibido varios premios.
Su obra reciente se centra en esculturas realizadas con tubos de aluminio, que apila y recorta creando todo tipo de formas. Lo que aquí nos interesa, son sus rinocerontes.

Yi Chul Hee is a Korean painter and sculptor born in 1960 who lives and works in Seoul. He has shown his work in numerous collective and individual exhibitions since 1983, and received several awards.
His recent work focuses on sculptures made with aluminum pipes, which he stacks and trims creating all kinds of shapes. What interests us here are his rhinos.

Nacido en 1973, Hamish Mackie creció en una granja de ganado en Cornualles, Inglaterra. En la cocina de la granja familiar, todavía cuelga su primera escultura de bronce, una cabeza de becerro que hizo a los 12 años como regalo de Navidad para su padre. Asistió a Radley College y el Falmouth School of Art, antes de estudiar diseño en la Universidad de Kingston. Comenzó a esculpir a tiempo completo en 1996.
Ha tenido el privilegio de observar la vida silvestre en muchos rincones del mundo de primera mano. “Observar a los animales en su propio entorno, en su hábitat natural, es esencial para comprender los rasgos físicos e instintivos del sujeto. Por ejemplo, la disposición de un depredador cautivo es muy diferente de la de un depredador salvaje, " dice. Esta observación cercana, que a menudo involucra intensos viajes de investigación y escultura del natural sobre el terreno, inspira el conjunto del enfoque de su obra, que resuena con su pasión por el mundo natural.

Born in 1973, Hamish Mackie grew up on a livestock farm in Cornwall, England. In the kitchen of the family farm, there still hangs his first bronze sculpture – a calf’s head he made at the age of 12 as a Christmas present for his father. He attended Radley College and Falmouth School of Art, before going on to study design at Kingston University. He began sculpting full time in 1996.
He has had the privilege of observing wildlife in many corners of the world at first hand. “Observing animals in their own environment, in their natural habitat, is essential to understanding the subject’s physical and instinctive traits. For example, the disposition of a captive predator is very different from that of a predator the wild,” he says. This close observation, often involving intense research trips and sculpting from life in the field, informs Hamish’s whole approach to his work, which resonates with his passion for the natural world.
His bronze wildlife sculptures capture instinctive moments of animal behaviour but are his own interpretation, not merely photographic representations. Hamish manages to convey the inner core, strength and grace of his subject. Largely self-taught, his style is unique – he frequently works in spontaneous, often unrepeatable, fluid gestures with a confidence born from many years of mastering his craft. This assertive handling of his materials, coupled with an acute understanding of anatomy, results in strong, dynamic, ‘living’ sculptures.

Lesley se formó inicialmente como artista gráfica antes de iniciar su propio negocio en 1996, fusionando su amor por los animales y la naturaleza con su amplia variedad de talentos artísticos. Ahora es conocida por sus maravillosos paisajes vívidos, retratos de animales y sus hermosas esculturas de animales en raku.
Trabajando como escultora independiente para Border Fine Arts durante un período de cuatro años, produjo más de 100 estudios de animales para la compañía, mientras que durante este tiempo continuó desarrollando su propio estilo de pintura único. Lesley initially trained as a graphic artist before starting up her own business in 1996, fusing her love of animals and nature with her broad ranging artist talents she is now well known for her wonderful vivid landscapes, animal portraits and her beautiful raku animal sculptures.
Working as a freelance sculptor for Border Fine Arts over a four year period she produced well over 100 animal studies for the company, whilst during this time continuing to develop her own unique painting style and also discovering raku ceramic and the beautiful possibilities it held for creating lifelike, one off, handmade animal sculpture.
Lesley has worked in a variety of mediums and has won many awards for her work, her work is collected internationally and her work hosted by many of Scotland's top galleries.

«He trabajado en diversas formas de arte desde que tenía 15 años, comenzando con pintura a la acuarela, descubriendo finalmente la alegría de trabajar con arcilla. Después de probar varios métodos y materiales, me decidí por la escultura cerámica como mi forma preferida. Las exclusivas esculturas hechas a mano están hechas con losas delgadas y pequeñas piezas de arcilla y se construyen sobre una base de periódico como un rompecabezas o un mosaico. La fragilidad resultante es integral tanto para el concepto como para la estética. Luego utilizo la técnica del raku para la mayoría de las esculturas. Encuentro que esto da riqueza e individualidad a cada pieza hecha a mano.»

Pam Rundle is an English artist born in Liverpool.
«I've worked in some form of Art since I was 15 - starting in watercolour painting, but finally discovering the joy of working with clay . After trying various methods and materials, I settled with ceramic sculpture as my preferred form. The unique hand-built sculptures are made using thin slabs and small pieces of clay and built up over a newspaper base like a puzzle or mosaic. The resulting fragility is integral to both the concept and aesthetic. I then Raku fire the majority of the sculptures – I find this give a richness and individuality to each hand made piece.»

Ya hemos disfrutado en este blog de algunas de esas hermosas esculturas efímeras realizadas con arena, representando a nuestras mascotas predilectas. Hace un tiempo la habitual colaboradora del blog Shirley Rebuffo me hizo llegar un rinoceronte construido en una playa de Uruguay. Con esta creación y algunas otras, cierro esta nueva entrega.
We have already enjoyed in this blog some of those beautiful ephemeral sculptures made with sand, representing our favorite pets. A while ago the usual blog contributor Shirley Rebuffo sent me a rhinoceros built on a beach in Uruguay. With this creation and some others, I close this new post.

Así se titula la obra en arena de las Artistas uruguayas Malvina Ocampo (Medica Veterinaria) e Iliana Cardeza (Docente de Arte), realizada en el 5to. Encuentro Latinoamericano de Esculturas en Arena "Por amor al arte, Castillos en la Arena", que tuvo lugar en Marindia, Uruguay.
«Ambas decidimos crear este Rinoceronte para enviar un mensaje sobre el peligro de extinción que corre esta especie, ya que creemos que los rinocerontes, junto a otras especies amenazadas y en peligro extinción, son víctimas de la ignorancia humana. En este proyecto escultórico a gran escala, mágico y efímero en su materialización, se encuentran nuestras sensibilidades artísticas, pasión por los animales, así como también el fuerte impulso por concientizar sobre la conservación de las especies, cuidado y amor por ellas, y respeto de su hábitat natural en el planeta.»

This is the title of the work by the Uruguayan artists Malvina Ocampo (Veterinary Medicine) and Iliana Cardeza (Art Teacher), created in the 5th. Latin American Meeting of Sand Sculptures "For the love of art, Castles in the Arena", which took place in Marindia, Uruguay.
"We both decided to create this Rhinoceros to send a message about the danger of extinction that this species runs, since we believe that rhinos, along with other endangered and threatened species, are victims of human ignorance. In this large-scale sculptural project, magical and ephemeral in its materialization, are our artistic sensibilities, passion for animals, as well as the strong impulse to raise awareness about the conservation of species, care and love for them, and respect for its natural habitat on the planet.»
