Etymology

From ãn + a Proto-Slavic *vьrtěti (compare Serbo-Croatian вртети (vrtjeti), Bulgarian въртя (vǎrtja)), with the Aromanian suffix -escu. Inheritance from Latin invertere or vertere is not probable. Compare Romanian învârti, învârtesc, Megleno-Romanian ạnvărtes.

Verb

  1. to spin, turn, twist, roll, turn about, whirl
  2. (reflexive, mi-anvãrtescu) to spin, turn, whirl (oneself)
