From Middle English ramsons, ramsens, rampsons, ramesones, ramsouns, plural of Middle English ramson, ramsen (wild garlic), reinterpreted as a singular form, from Old English hramsan, nominative plural of Old English hramsa (wild garlic), from Proto-Germanic *hramusô (onion; leek), from Proto-Indo-European *kremus-, *kermus- (wild garlic; onion).
