From Old Swedish Olāver, Olēf, from Old Norse Óláfr, from Proto-Norse *ᚨᚾᚢᛚᚨᛁᛒᚨᛉ (*anulaibaʀ). First recorded as a given name in Sweden in 1400. Cognate with Norwegian Olav and English Olaf.
