[edit]From Middle Low German bedrṏven, drṏven, from Proto-Germanic *drōbijaną (“to trouble”), cognate with German trüben, Dutch droeven, Gothic 𐌳𐍂𐍉𐌱𐌾𐌰𐌽 (drōbjan) (Swedish bedröva is also from Low German). Derived from the adjective *drōbuz (“troubled”).
