[edit]From Old Swedish enfaldogher (“folded once”) (older form enfalder), from en (“one”) + fåll (“crease; fold”) + -ig (“-y”), from Old Norse einfaldr, from Proto-Germanic *ainafalþaz. Related to English onefold. Akin to en + -faldig.
